Create a beautiful landscape for your home or project and learn the basic principles of landscape design.  Learn how to avoid common mistakes made by beginners and experienced professionals alike and enjoy a self-created, successful garden of your own design.

In this five-session workshop, you are invited to participate in an intensive curriculum with both classroom and home work.  The course has been developed to allow a homeowner with minimal to basic garden knowledge to use their own property as a class project resulting in a well-thought out landscape plan.  In addition to class time (five three-hour classes over five weeks), expect to spend ~2 hours/week on work outside the class preparing for the next session.

Learn in class and through take-home assignments:

  • Theory and principles of landscape design

  • Understand benchmarks in landscape sustainability

  • Site analysis and the landscape design process

  • Understanding soils and site characteristics

  • Proper plant selection for your site

  • Plant selection for function and landscape characteristics

  • How to develop bedlines

  • Understanding critical project phases and planning for a budget

  • How to plan for function, maintenance and cost while achieving an ecologically intelligent and visually pleasing design unique to your site

Each week's class will include lecture, discussion and time for the instructor to evaluate and provide feedback on each participant's project.

Take home assignments will be given each week.

Some drafting tools will be available to share in class.
